What is an Eyelift?
An Eyelift, known clinically as a blepharoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to rejuvenate and enhance the appearance of the eyelids and surrounding eye skin. This popular procedure addresses signs of aging around the eyes, such as sagging, wrinkles, and puffiness, which all contribute to a look of tiredness or premature aging. Eyelid surgery, like an eyelift, results in a smoother, firmer contour around the eyes creating a brighter and more youthful expression. Eyelift surgery is not only done for cosmetic enhancement but can also improve vision that has been affected by drooping eyelids.
Who Is a Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?
Candidates for Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, typically include individuals seeking to address common signs of aging around the eyes or those with hereditary conditions contributing to eyelid concerns. Ideal candidates may exhibit sagging or excess skin on the upper eyelids, resulting in a heavy or haggard appearance. In more severe cases this drooping can even affect the quality of their vision. Candidates should also be in good overall health and maintain realistic expectations about the results of this procedure. The best way to determine your candidacy for blepharoplasty is by scheduling a consultation with Dr. Yco at Your Cosmetic Office.
PATIENT TESTIMONIALS: THE IMPACT OF YCO
Eyelift Procedure
After having a thorough consultation with Dr. Yco to discuss your concerns and goals, you will arrive for your procedure with a clean face. To begin the procedure, Dr. Yco will make an incision along the natural creases of the eyelids, allowing for a convenient spot to camouflage the scar. For the upper eyelid, excess skin, muscle, and fatty tissue will be removed to address problems related to sagging or heaviness. For lower eyelid surgery, excess fat may be redistributed to address loose skin or wrinkles. Once the procedure is completed, you will go home the same day.
Post-Op Care
Following post-operative care instructions after blepharoplasty is crucial for setting yourself up for a successful recovery. Immediately after surgery, patients may experience mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising around the eyes. Applying a cold compress and keeping your head elevated can help alleviate these symptoms. Taking your prescribed medications such as pain relievers and antibiotics will also help to make recovery more comfortable. You will need to avoid engaging in any strenuous activities, including bending over, for the first couple of weeks after surgery. Protecting your eyes from any damaging environmental factors like the sun or wind is also an important part of recovery. To optimize your recovery Dr. Yco may recommend hyperbaric Co2 treatments or red light therapy.
